My girlfriend is a hairstylist so I've gotten to try out a lot of different shampoo brands. I know jack about shampoo and conditioner composition, but last night I bought a bottle of Suave Professional Plus 2 in 1 and my hair smells good feels so soft like I'm dancing on a cloud... errrrrr. So yeah, one thing I noticed is being Asian, my hair is pretty thick and strong already and when I use the Pro products like Paul Mitchell or Biolage, my hair feels even thicker and frizzed like hell. So maybe Suave sucks for whities because it has the tendency to thin your hair, whereas for us Asians, it's preferred?

You guys have a favorite brand?

Fav Shampoos:
Paul Mitchell Tea Tree
Pantene Pro V
Herbel Essence
Suave Pro Plus 2 in 1 (just started trying it)

I make my own of sorts:

1 part Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Oil Shampoo
1 part Head and Shoulders
0.5 parts Neutrogena T/Gel

Best combination I've found to treat my seborrheic dermatitis(a couple levels above regular dandruff).

I don't use conditioner.

Garnier Fructis
Hair's a bit coarse and wavy so it can be frizzy. This stuff makes it relax, flatten, and feel silky.
I stick with what I like for years - why shop around? 10 years ago Pantene was my favorite.

I generally just get whatever is on sale and doesn't stink too much.

any shampoo-conditioner combo always makes my hair limp. i do like suave though, their coconut conditioner and daily clarifying shampoo. have tried all kinds of more expensive brand names (gf is a hair dresser, gives me products for cheap) and none make my hair more shiny and soft than suave.

My wife keeps buying expensive shit. Just give me a super size economy bottle of the cheapest stuff they carry and I'm good. The expensive stuff does smell nice though

Depends on a lot of factors...
I need stuff that smells horrible because its the only stuff that works for what I need it to do. :(

During the dryest part of winter, my hair would seriously get itchy really quickly along with dandruff. You know what works well for that? Believe it or not, Vinegar. Only problem is, your hair will smell like vinegar for a week (when it is wet). Seriously, using the dandruff shampoo doesnt help, try the vinegar method:

1/3 cup vinegar

1) Wet your hair and shampoo like you normally do and rinse the shampoo off.
2) Pour vinegar onto hair and massages scalp for at least 5 minutes. Then rinse it off.
3) Use conditioner for 5 minutes.

Do this for at least 3 days and your hair will be super shiny and bacteria free (dandruff/itch). But once again you will smell like a salad for at least a week.

For us men, if you have smelly feet or your underarm smells even after you shower, wash it with vinegar as well. It really does the trick.

I just use a cheap bottle of suave. I stock up when they're on sale for 79 cents. Smells good enough, and my hair turns out just fine. I've used my wife's more expensive stuff, and I've used my son's head and shoulders when the bottle in the shower is empty. I see zero difference in how my hair turns out.

A study by, IIRC Consumer Reports, years ago found only one was better than others, Pert Plus.

I use H&S and then some random conditioner. I think I've been using some Dove conditioner for the last year or so (a bottle lasts me forever).
