Shaking my head at eBay bidders

Recently I've been looking for a Givi top case for my bike but keep getting outbid by people who end up paying more than retail - even for used stuff! I know this isn't a new observation, but things seem to have gotten worse on eBay. I used to get good stuff cheap, but it's much harder to do now. It's great when you are the seller, but what a waste of time if you are looking for a bargain.

People shopping from home in their PJ's - never have to go out - I agree a lot of stuff sells for ridiculously high prices. I usually find the lowest BuyNow price.

I thought we had already confirmed that the general public is stupid.

I just sold an online gift certificate for a dollar more than it's value lol. It makes sense since a lot of these people who would pay more than what you're used to in America seem to be from foreign countries. The guy who bought my gift certificate was from the UK so I'd imagine they would charge VAT and other stuff if he bought it from the UK. Just a guess though. Foreign buyers usually still get a deal on ebay if they pay what you're used to as face value due to additional costs, shipping, and taxes.

It is mostly sellers with a second accounts bidding on their own auctions inorder to create interest and drive the price up.

When I was selling motherboards years ago it was crazy how much more than retail people would pay.

I'm not selling computer parts often now. I have an ebay auction house like ubid, I take a 25% cut of what I sell.

That's where a little money is if you have a storefront with fiberoptic and a digital camera.

I would also add there are good deals on ebay if you know which items to look at. Lots of cheap DVD's (retail and I mean legit and sealed), OEM parts (Cell phone batteries), and the like are just some examples of items i've purchased which were great deals.

I just got a new copy of HL2: game of the year edition for $10. Considering the cheapest buy it now price was $40 including shipping, and similarly for retail stores, I feel like I got a good deal.

That's true, it depends upon the item. I've had good luck with CDs and books and some electronics.

I just sold my old ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe awhile back on eBay with an old Athlon 900MHZ in it and I got $225 for it this was less then a month ago Years ago I sold my Abit KT7-A with no CPU just the board and I got $150 for it people on Ebay are generally dumb you have to look around for good deals on eBay though the final value fees are a bitch though. I also just saw an old ASUS AT Motherboard go for $60 because it had P5 (Like the new LGA 775 ones do) in the title and it Clearly had a picture of an old AT motherboard with the cables and simms BTW my eBay ID is Computer_Wiz_Kid happy bidding and watch out for scammers

Yes ebay IS crazy. I work at Pfaltzgraff (dishes) and I saw an item we only sell at our stores for $9.99 sell for $37.00 on ebay. Even if you had it shipped from us to your house it still would have been less than half of what that idiot paid.

I've gotten a few good deals on ebay, but for the most part people bid the items I watch to outrageous prices.

Heh. People are stupid indeed. Bidding more then retail for crap. Though, I did get two good deals on fleabay - a new KRZR K1M for well less then retail (about $215), and a $600 car amp mislisted as "defective" for $60.

he wont have to pay VAT.

all items on ebay if used have had the VAT already paid by the original buyer, or if its a new item it'll be combined in the price already by the seller.

if i buy an item from out of the UK, i get the seller to send it as a gift = no customs duty to pay

same here, thought i got a nearly new 360 + extra controllers, play and charge kit, every single video cable, 3 games and all the reciepts/proofs of purchace for £300.

a new console was £280 at the time, all the extras would of probably had that way over £400
