Shakey-cam video of new 360 Dash from PAX

Link - Supposedly, video cameras weren't allowed because they're still testing and adding stuff but, of course, some got video anyway.

Hard to see some of the detail but one of the things that immediately jumps out to me is how snappy the menus are. Everything moves smooth and fast.

Theme previewing is also added. :thumbsup:

Noticed that there is now a "Most Popular" section in the Arcade section.

Showed how easy it was to join a party...just highlight a friend and press A.

Those are the basic highlights if you get motion-sickness from watching a nearly 7 minute shakey, out of focus, and often off target video.

Call me a fanboy or whatever you want......but I fucking love the new 360 dashboard. I cannot wait to get my hands on it. It's light-years beyond the old blade dashboard and PS3's XMB.

I'm not really sold on the look or avatars, but it certainly does look a lot more responsive than the blades and pretty well laid out.

Really looking forward to the optional installs, although with my 20gb HD It'll have to be one game at a time. I only wish we had the ability to use our own HDs, I'd love to put a solid state 2.5" in there, I really dont like being forced to use a 5400rpm 2.5" disk, nor can I stomach the thought of paying even a reduced $99 for the upcoming 60gb drive.

That's not a fanboy thing to say. The current dashboard is light years beyond the XMB.

As the G4 peeps said; we'll make an avator to use because we frickin have to when the update comes out, it's still just a menu system.

Once again, my bad. Didn't know I was crying about anything. Don't quote one of my sentences, edit it for your own purposes, then bold it. Also, you should keep up with my posts, unless you're editing out everything. I never mentioned the avatar thing, I just commented on the dashboard.

I really, really dislike the avatars. I understand it's Microsoft trying to bring a face to the 360, but they are terrible Mii clones.

As for the new interface being better than the XMB, I disagree. The XMB may not be flashy, but it's an organizational structure that's innovative and works. The new 360 experience looks flashy, but I really don't see how it organizes things any better than the current blades. Even Major Nelson admits that navigating the Marketplace seems confusing.

I'll wait to actually use it before passing judgment but it looks like Microsoft went from something that was all their own (blades) into this weird Wii/XMB/CoverFlow knock-off. It really stinks of design by committee.
