Is this the future for America?

Notice how people are saying hate speech is the precursor for civil war.

Future? We are already there. Thanks to trump, dumb ass tea partiers, and the NRA, nationalism is already here and growing.

Sure, it nationalism is a scapegoat for the lower classes when they don't know how to formulate a solution to their economic hardships. That's basically the state of the prison system. I suppose if you simply make sure your incarceration rates are high enough so that you capture most of the rowdy parts of the lower end of the distribution you can avoid most major ethnic conflicts.

The Serbs have always been fascists. Russia doesn't care who gets raped or killed as long as it increases their power, and the Serbs already like Russia more than most, so Russia uses that to make them cut other ties.

I don't think America is anywhere close to experiencing another civil war. Two very different countries with very different histories and with very different neighbors and geopolitics. And honestly, a lot of our issues here in the United States would be resolved if we grew up, stopped being so easily offended, and re-learned what our core values were.

I may struggle to explain this next part, so bear with me here.

The problem with the hate speech discussion in America is that people continually redefine hate speech to fit the narrative of what "offends" them in that moment. But this is the key to understanding the entire hate speech debate and looking at it from a reasonable, mature outside perspective: The human brain biologically responds to intellectual offense the same way it responds physical offense, and freedom of speech always, always requires an environment where two people are willing participants to listen to each other's ideas and possibly be offended by them. This means that any disagreement, even disagreements of whether tomatoes are better than onions, can potentially become "violence inciting".

Now, an onions vs tomatoes debate is an extreme example, but you get the point. But the problem now is that people are suddenly labeling each other's ideas as hate speech when, in fact, they're not. People are being labelled as white supremacists when, in fact, they're not. People are being labelled as bigots, and racists, and whatnot. And some are, not going to deny that, but a lot aren't. They're just people with differing ideas, and they deserve the same representation as anyone else.

Silverbacks are enormously powerful animals. But if you ever watch Silverbacks in videos or in the zoo, you'll notice that their tendency is to use small bouts of physical force to communicate. A quick knock in the arm, or a quick slap in the face. When language breaks down, and communication is no longer possible because two parties cannot agree on the definitions of words and expressions, then the only possible resort becomes violence.

Are we humans in this country, or do we choose to act like a bunch of apes?

Putin is the real actor here.. seeding division and nationalism whereever he can with no regards to the potential loss of lives..Wars.. See Putin is a geopolitical operator, a maker of dynasties, king of kings, master of the long game. In his own mind. In this context war is a small price to pay.. Wake the fck up.

Did you think everyone would talk about how great the other guys are before they started killing them? You don't have a civil war because of mutual respect and admiration.
I assume the thought here is that if you could stop "hate speech" there would be no civil war. That forced compliance with a particular way of thinking would end the threat of violence. I think that's a great idea, as long as it's my side doing the forced compliance. When the other guy's side is doing the forced compliance it's time to start shooting.

You want "The right to incite civil war" written into law? I feel like I might be missing a metric here .. not sure where though... somewhere... hmmm

I don't see where I said that. I also didn't suggest changing any laws.

They're extra stupid in the Balkans because it's actually about religion. Muslim Bozniaks & Orthodox Serbs are of the same ethnicity. Communism was the best thing to happen to them in a few hundred years because it transcended that.

It wasn't communism that held Yugoslavia together, it was Tito.
