I've been thinking about this for some time now.. AMD radeon (ATI) doesn't have shader clocks on their GPUs while Nvidia has it...

does the shader clocks matter? does it have a purpose? does it have effects on gaming performance?

just wanted to know what its for.. added knowledge =)

your inputs would be greatly appreciated...

AMD has shader clocks, it's just that you can't change them and they're tied to the GPU clock.

Depending on the game, you can get a nice boost by overclocking the shaders on an NV card. It will have a particularly large impact on GPGPU applications.

on GTX 200 series this is possble; however, on my GTX 460, both gpu and shaders are linked and cannot be untied...

Yep, Fermi based parts have their core clock tied to the shader clock (50% ratio) If you touch the shader clock, it affects everything except the memory.
