buy it then use the crack. Problem solved.

I would, but I'm not willing to support this type of DRM at all. If it had an offline mode I would be fine with it.

So I'm left with not purchasing it and speaking with my wallet.

I have some bad news.....

I really wish I had read some of the official forums before buying this game, it is in every way a complete departure from SHIII and IV, it's 100% garbage, my heart is completely broken.

You have no rudder control outside of 1 degree or full either left or right, there is no compass, there is no TDC. You must conduct all maneuvers with your sub via waypoints on a minimap. You cannot ping for depth below the keel.

Basically, this is an arcade Submarine game for 12 year old retards, every ounce of simulation have been removed.

Silent Service for NES had better controls, you could at least steer your sub. Never have I felt so let down by a game - I don't care about the bugs, I could live with them until they're patched out, this game cannot be saved it's been ruined irrevocably and the series itself is done.

Supposedly there are some mods to restore some of the old controls and interface, but it's not enough, I don't want to play this game, it's been deleted and I will never touch it again.

My friends - do not buy this game.

Edit - I just want to add, the lack of reviews should have sent an alarm bell off in my head, either the sites are just heartbroken like me and don't want to give the game a 2.0 out of 10, (I'm not sure that's low enough) or they're being bought off by UBI to delay the reviews until they get enough suckers like me to buy the game. Either way smells rotten.

I bought it on release, been a fan of III and IV.

This game is entirely unplayable in its current state due to game-breaking bugs and crashes. Even for Ubisoft it's bad...it's like ATARI bad.

Yeah, I went there.

Re: Ayabe's comments: the TDC is fine, it works pretty much the same as before but with a different interface basically. I imagine the lack of rudder control is just some sort of oversight, you can still get your bearing and do all the manual plotting and such in the map room.

If the devs don't get out some patches to make the game playable in the next month though I will demand a refund from steam, it's just overall so buggy as to be totally unacceptable. I doubt the devs even did any QA whatsoever on this, it is pre-beta quality.
