Wow, just looked into the SGI 1600SW (Link)
Looks like an empressive monitor!

But ofcourse you will be loosings 5.2 Inches Screen space... and going from Aperture Grill towards an LCD.

yeah thats the sony i was looking at too...prolly jsut a prefferance thing adn prolly be happy with either one....i can get the sgi for 1198 on pricewatch...sony comes in at 1549

That SGI monitor doesnt work with all video cards...its very specific on what cards do and dont work with it. You should read this before purchasing one.

ok i'll check into it more...i would be using a gf3 of some kind....hte reason i want a new monitor is i am gonna beuild another tower...so havent gotten all the hardware ironed out yet...but thanks for the lead on that link

My friends just got a sdm-n80 and he said it's wicked 🙂.
He said it has a motion sensor so that it will go to power
saving when you're not around. It can go to 1600x1200 only
on digital connection and I think the only card support DVI up to 1600x1200
is Prophet III and maybe some other hercules card.

I would say SGI is pretty nice with it's high PPI.
My laptop got 133PPI with 1600x1200 at 15"
and text is very clear and easy to read.
eventhough it's very small.

I'm waiting for My eizo L771 to arrived, I hope it's good though
since I can't buy IBM T210 with it's amazing 127PPI.

Cheers,

RL
