sgi 1600sw being replaced?

I am thinking about picking up this monitor for college (I would buy it in August) but it seems that sgi is discontinuing it (They lowered the price and are saying the new price is "for a limited time only&quot😉 also some of the major sights, such as buy.com and cdw are no longer carrying it. Should I buy one now, or wait and see what sgi releases to replace it. Also while I am asking about the monitor, how is it for gaming and such, I also would probably be using it as a TV (either through a fire wire based TV tuner or a ntsc-vga converter as I will be bringing a laptop so a pci based tuner will not work). Another monitor I am thinking about is the Samsung 1700mp (good refresh rate and built in tuner) any comparison between the two would be helpful. (Note this has also been posted in the general hardware forum)!!!

The SGI 1600 is supposedly pretty good.

I've seen the Samsung 170MP in person, and personally, I think it looks like an incredible LCD. Haven't tried any games on it, but the TV tuning features are oh so attractive, and the PIP isn't bad either 🙂

I just got my 1600SW yesterday, for college also, and I have yet to set it up, but it is supposedly still one of the best LCDs for gaming (low pixel response time). If you get what SGI replaces it with, it'll probably cost you $2500-3000 like the 1600SW did when it was new. Maybe not that high, but much more than current prices. SGI really isn't known for their consumer-level competitive pricings... 🙂
