My FSP-300GLS died, so I temporarily bought a cheap Coolmax CM-300 locally, but it's noisy. I am looking at getting a Seasonic ECO300 to replace it. The FSP and the Coolmax have exactly the same dimensions but the ECO300 has the protruding fan. Now, assuming the ECO300's main body is the same size as the FSP, I don't think the protruding fan will be a problem (looking inside my case), but I can't find any measurements of it anywhere.

Does anyone know if the SFX form factor with the protruding fan housing is otherwise similar to the PSUs that typically fit in a microATX case? I'm also considering the other Seasonic, the SS-350SFE, but at least one review says it is noisy. It is also more power than I need.

Note: I just found that the SS-300SFD has dimensions listed, I presume this is the "bulk" version of the ECO300?

SS-300SFD: 125mm(4.9")*100mm(3.9")*76.5mm(3.0")

SS-350SFE: 130mm(5.1")*125mm(4.9")*64mm(2.5")

So it appears that the ECO300 would be about 12.5mm taller than the SS-350SFE. Is that extra 12.5mm due to the fan enclosure? In other words, is the main body of the PSU only 64mm tall? Because my case does have a small metal stub which limits the size of the PSU to 64mm, but that stub is not large enough to block the fan.

If the case conforms to SFX standards, I don't think the protruding fan would be an issue. It should stick out only about a centimeter.

I have the Seasonic 350W and to me it isn't too noisy unless running a heavily loaded system (GTX 260 :Q ). With 60mm fans it won't ever be as quiet under load as units with 80mm fans. AFAIK at 26A combined it has the highest +12v continuous rating of any SFX PSU on the market.

Picked up the ECO 300, and it is great. I confirmed that the main body is indeed 64mm deep and besides the fan the dimensions are exactly the same as the FSP and the CoolMax. The fan protrudes over the motherboard and blocks my secondary serial port connector (what a shame). I cannot perceive any noise from outside the case, and inside, it is barely audible. I think this is an improvement over the FSP, even. Hopefully it is more reliable too.
