Anybody know of any? I've been looking around and I'll either find a pretty big case (Aria, Q-Pack) for around $90 without a motherboard, or a nice sized smaller case (SGN series) for around $300. Anyone find a happy medium?

Aopen sells a Pentium-M Barebones for a little over $300. It is a little on the expensive side but it would run really cool and quiet. I wish this would catch on because it saves money on your electric bill and lowers power usage. Even if you were playing video games, Aopen also sells some Pent M motherboards with PCI Express. They dont sell because people prefer the lower cost of the regular P4, even thought it runs like a furnace. I think this would be ideal for use in a PVR.

First Pais I will say the the Pentuim M ssf is nice system, but it doesn't fit his specs at all.

Lorn thier are no current generation sff for under $300. If you don't mind nforce 3 chipsets you have a few from all the big names at around $200. The reason why the Aria and Q-packs are so large is that they use M-ATX motherbaords not the traditional SFF boards.

I know aht you mean but I ahve yet to find what I want. If you doing a PVR only you be able to go the way of Mini-ITX but then you will not have much power or a powerful video card.

why not go for an aspire x-qpack which is 80 bucks and then buy a micro atx mobo which runs about 90 bucks. and the case comes with a solid 420 watt power supply. read anand's review on the case...its pretty good and you can even install a zalman heatsink in it. im deciding between that and the shuttle socket 939 setup. i like shuttle because its smaller and already prebuilt but i like the aspire because it costs less, better power supply and you can use a much better heatsink than the I.C.E. heatsinks in the shuttle.
another plus side is that with micro atx mobo you have a choice of having a 16x pci-express, 1x pci express, and 1-3 pci slots all on one mobo. shuttle only offers one with a 1x pci-ex and 16x pci-ex or another model with 16x pci-ex and pci. this is a downside for me because i need to install a tv tuner(pci) but i also want the 1x pci-ex because of future upgrades(soundcard, hdtv tuner, etc)

the ONLY thing holding me back from getting the aspire is the size as i am going for something small this time around...my last rig was built in a thermaltake tsunami dream...very big and loud case.
