I've got an AM2 A64 3500+ CPU that's collecting dust, so I figure I might as well build something interesting using it.

The Asus board looks interesting, however it is apparently lacking in overclocking options.

Do you guys have any suggestions re: Foxconn, Gigabyte, Abit, etc.?

The Asus board looks particularly full-featured.

As far as a case goes, something with a handle would be nice.

You could look at some Biostar setups. The sad thing is, I have a Biostar motherboard and case just sitting around collecting dust that I would sell you, but it only takes skt 775.
 
I like my QPack case, and have a Biostar AM2 6100 board in there.

I think I burned up my CPU via overclocking, but when it was running, it ran cool & quiet (Sempron 3000+ 1.6GHz@ 2.6GHz). Heading to Fry's to pick up another cpu and see if that's the problem. If it is, gonna return it and pick up a X2 3800+ in FS/FT.

The memory voltage options are there, but depending on the BIOS rev, memory timings are set automatically (that worked okay w/ my 667 RAM).

Case has a handle, and has held up well (no pun intended).

I had the Asus board, very poor OC options (unless they've released a newer BIOS), but stable.

When you say that the Asus board had very poor OC options, what exactly do you mean? I'm assuming that the A64 AM2 chips are multiplier locked. Will I need better memory? Can the CPU voltage be adjusted? If yes, then by how much? Can the memory frequency and voltage be adjusted? Is there a temperature monitoring system?

I'm wary purchasing a Biostar board. Has anyone here tried out the Gigabyte?

If it's the M2NPV-VM board then:

-The RAM voltages are either Auto or 1.9v.
-No CPU voltage adjustments.
-No HTT adjustments.
-Temp control present.

You'll need at least DD2 667 memory when dealing w/ low multi locks (usually 8 or 9).

Interesting...what kind of memory will I need to obtain a moderate overclock?

Further to that, I'm still looking for a SFF case with a handle. 🙂

Beyond that, I'm interested in alternatives to the Asus board.
