More to the story: The home team refused to fly an American flag too, they left the flagpole empty.
And the visiting team stomped their ass.
As it should be. Then again it is in California...

They don't do that around here. Maybe its regional?
That's because soccer is un-American.They didn't play the anthem at my high school before any soccer games, track and field, or tennis events I played.
Oh, yeah, I missed that. Probably played the Hymn of the Soviet Union or whatever. That's because soccer is un-American.

Say what ever you want about the soul crushing paranoia of the USSR but they had a fucking boss anthem!Oh, yeah, I missed that. Probably played the Hymn of the Soviet Union or whatever.
Those are games. In small-town USA, football and baseball games are social/community events on par with church. They didn't play the anthem at my high school before any soccer games, track and field, or tennis events I played.
Seriously. I've got a CD of the anthems of the Soviet republics.Say what ever you want about the soul crushing paranoia of the USSR but they had a fucking boss anthem!

Depending on the crowd you run with, there may very well be a prayer. It's basically the same thing,THEY SHOULD PLAY THE ANTHEM BEFORE FUCKING KNITTING CLUB GET-TOGETHERS!
Well, not EVERY event. When I was a kid and played sports we did not do the national anthem until high school. You don't sing the national anthem at a children's basketball game for example. At least that's been my experience, it seems to be high school sponsored sports and above where the anthem is played. The national anthem is played before virtually every sporting event at every level in the US. Even games with eight year olds. The Pledge of Allegiance is recited at any official government event, even local government. This school not playing the anthem is highly irregular, but not surprising. It seems to be the trend these days.

Hey, it's not a problem for me. But for a lot of people, their social lives are centered around their church. So, yes, even their knitting club is going to be a bunch of people who go to the same church, meet in a church basement, etc. That's kind of fucked up. I'm sorry to hear that.
