i guess we're starting the year off right.

i was out of the country for 2 weeks and come back to this (in no particular order):

-this morning, car vs. 69 yr old granny on geary/25th. car apparently stopped but she fell and was struck. died later at the general.

-fatal shooting in oakland after an argument over a parking spot.

-wii contest water intoxication death

-wheel flies off luxor cab to hit lady in suv. 15yr old daughter in the car pulls the car over. mom dies.

-vallejo man's pants alight while he's chilling by the pool. in critical condition at uc davis. apparently his nokia is not the blame.

-some 16 yr old crashes his jeep going at high speeds in a neighborhood at 4 in the morning. died.

-yale beating...

this just in

Traffic on the Bay Bridge heading into San Francisco is moving at a crawl after a California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was struck and injured during a pursuit of suspects who apparently threw cocaine from their pickup truck while being chased from Oakland, authorities said.

all this in a matter of 2 weeks.

lawsuits pending for all the above, im sure.

update:
1/19: 4 killed as civic bursts into flames after being hit from behind. pic

1/20: corolla travelling on I-80E swerves, flips over center divide, and hits and oncoming ford expedition, which exploded. 3 dead

i guess i'll stop so it doesn't turn into a news thread. i wonder what the record for days with consecutive highway explosions are.

Hmmm....I work in an inner city trauma hospital in Detroit...these sort of weird things happen all the time. Example...why did one man die a few weeks back from a relatively low speed (25 mph) car accident....yet just 2 nights ago we had a young lady who flipped her ford focus at 80 mph on the freeway hit the left retaining wall slide all the way back across the freeway hit the right retaining wall yet she walked away from the accident with a broken jaw and one missing tooth.

Life's weird like that. Perhaps you are just noticing it because it's reported on the news. Probably 99% of all deaths and injuries are not even reported in a given day...more it's just reported on if it's something strange, weird, or multiple people injured/dead.

You forgot the shooting in Richmond, when someone cut-off a guy who was test driving a car with a salesman. Apparently, the test-driver honked his horn at the other guy, and the salesman raised both arms as if to say "WTF?" Someone in the other car opened fire, killing the driver, and causing a wreck on I-80 during rush hour...not surprised when stuff like that happens in Richmond. NASTY place...

What's the scoop on the Yale beating? I read that there was a gang of guys beating them down as they left some party individually, then all news coverage stopped. Oh, also heard that the cops first asked for copies of the injury photos, taking no pictures themselves, then took the camera and memory card.

-wheel flies off luxor cab to hit lady in suv. 15yr old daughter in the car pulls the car over. mom dies.

ouch.....steel wheels are heavy

Steel wheels are usually lighter than the allow mag wheels on a lot of cars.

you mean suvs. steel wheels are pretty heavy so u gotta be doing something pretty wrong before an alloy is heavier

it was a gay bashing, which are not usually covered by mainstream news. maybe that is why the coverage "stopped" once the networks worked out what the motivation was for the bashing
