Don't like to double post, but do have other questions.

Is it worth staying on the Strip itself hotel wise just for the experience? If so, where should I try staying? I'm not a high roller so a median price would be nice.
I would say the Aria and Venetian give nice rates if you try Hotwire. But I've stayed at the Cosmo and it's definitely a cut above. I find it extremely soothing to get a high level floor, play some lounge music off my iPhone hooked into the room's audio system, etc.

Also, what weekend in July?

July 4th Weekend.

Just picked up tickets. 600 bucks round trip. Seems a bit high, but really couldn't do the planning much better,

You going alone? With a group? IIRC you're a young guy so curious if you're into clubs/etc. Yeah Vegas is ridiculous now. I paid $100 to get into some club for MDW in 2011. I'm paying up the nose for EDC weekend this year too for some events.

If you're interested in events, I can give you some guidance.

Going with a friend and going to meet up with people in the area.

I was going to spend 3 days around the SF area, then go and party up in Vegas the rest of the week.

What kind of events are you talking about? I do clubs, just not $100 cover bars.

WHAT?!?!?! I'm a sushi snob and that's my favorite place in all of the US (disclaimer I have not tried Nakazawa yet), but I've gone all over the San Francisco, tried the places in Seattle, and am not satisfied yet. I think LA is the next place to go, but I've gone to Vegas and eaten at Kabuto 4 times now. I have a reservation for June 20th, but if you're telling me the chef is gone... then yikes.

come down to LA and we'll sushi you silly.

The clubs are probably $100 for a long weekend, or will be at least by the time you get there. Looks like tickets are still cheap. I guess 4th of July isn't as big in Vegas as Labor Day and Memorial Day Weekend (the official start and end of summer in Vegas). I personally enjoy EDM a lot, so those are always fun events. I'm finding the pool parties/dayclubs to be far better than the nightclubs though.

Oh yeah. Definitely. I'll make an attempt to do one of those in the next month or so. Unfortunately I'm all the way down in Irvine for my next couple of work trips, but we'll see.

Kasen in fountain valley is pretty legit. Very traditional, high quality, pretty damn expensive.

Shibucho Newport Beach is supposed to be the OC standard, but I've never been. Here's a 2011 review: http://www.kevineats.com/2011/08/sushi-shibucho-costa-mesa-ca.html

There used to be a few good places in tustin (Maki Zushi) but I hear they've gone to shit since.

Fear not! Supposedly he is going to start his own restaurant very soon.

Kinda disagree with this one but I'm spoiled with the Bouchon in Napa. But even then it's not that amazing. Just stop by the bakery and get some TKOs and chocolate bouchons.
There's certainly better places and nothing there is exactly mind blowing, but considering it's Vegas and the prices of everything I've received consistently very good meals at reasonable-for-Vegas $. That's why I said it's a great value.
