wow. that is scary. will that guy have a sexual harassment case on his permanent file (i.e. will he be troubled if he looks for new employment at another company?).

i can imagine that he would be angry at his wife especially since he said he used his special pen name for her in the note - then again, there is a time and place for these sort of things and the workplace certainly doesnt qualify as the place...

You know, I'm thinking about this PC world we are creating and I just realized that in the 12 years that I've been out and in the civilian professional world that I've never seen a sexual harrassment case filed.

When I first got to AlliedSignal I was a little hesitant to tell jokes and such. I'd stop whenever a female coworker walked in so as not to offend. After a month of this they all cornered me and told me that they were hurt that I treated them differently than the male coworkers and that they liked jokes as much as the guys, and the dirty ones were the best. So I relaxed and all was well. Two of them even wound up coming on to me at the workplace several times. No one filed harrassment suits.

It's been similar everywhere I've worked since. Do these suits get filed frequently in other places? I'm baffled...

If I were you, when those ladies cornered me I would have said: No offense ladies, but you and I both know what kind of world we're living in. I'm sure I'm just being paranoid, and I'm sure you aren't the type of person to sue me and the company over something so trivial...but frankly, I'm not willing to take that chance.

Then I would have kept doing exactly what I was doing before. Not telling jokes in front of the ladies. Like the other guy said, all you have to do is go out for drinks with one and not call her or something and then BAM! she decides she's going to "get you back" by filing a suit on your ass. Don't act like it won't happen, because it fvcking does. False rape charges are in the same vein. I read an article about a newscaster who blew almost 10k on lawyer defense fees to stay out of jail when some woman he never met who saw him on television claimed he raped her.

Kranky is the man...

Wife should have consulted the husband before running to HR

If they have done similar things via email, they should keep in mind that the IT department could easily read their emails

Still, HR went too far - they could easily respond to a judge/lawyer who asks about any dropped SH cases by saying "yes, there was one, but it turned out to be a note from the woman's husband, and was just a misunderstanding" - The fear of legal issues is very real in dealing with HR matters, but common sense should still apply.

I worked for a large retail company once at their corporate office - HR wouldn't let me fire a guy who screwed up all of his work and was not capable of doing the work that other people making the same amount of money could do because he was an older minority - they were literally afraid of being sued, so they transferred him to the mailroom, where he was the highest paid mail clerk ever!

you just don't get it. It don't matter IF it was dropped OR NOT. the next person can prove that he had another SH complaint filled against him. Now the company is in big trouble for trying to "hide" the case.

the company did the right thing. They are protecting the company. Ok so the idiot now has a SH complaint on his record. but if something ever happens to that guy again they are protected.
