Extremely disturbing article on a new government sponsored Youth Movement in Russia that teaches the state is more important than the individual, obedience to the president, and that Stalin was the greatest leader of all time. At their "Youth Camp" they have a section set aside for the youths to "procreate" called the "Love Oasis." No drugs, alcohol, or thongs (they inhibit procreation, apparently) and no condoms either.

It would be like GW adopting and funding the Christian Coalition to teach school and do his bidding. Scary stuff.

"If tens of thousands of uniformed German youngsters were marching across Germany in support of an authoritarian Fuhrer, baiting foreigners and praising Hitler, alarm bells would be jangling all across Europe. So why aren't they ringing about Nashi?"

Found that interesting anyway...

Have you seen any Russian porn? They have some hot chicks over there, not sure why they need to encourage them to have sex?

A conservative like you looking at Russian porn? I'm shocked, shocked!...

It is not a matter of encouraging them to have sex, I'm sure they are having plenty of that. It is a matter of getting them to procreate, which they indeed are not. The birthrate in Russia is abysmal.

Read "America Alone". Their population is dropping like a rock.

Second, the article is only a handful of paragraphs about the demographic solution; the real aim of the group is that it's Russia's new fascist movement.

A new guide for history teachers - explicitly endorsed by Mr Putin - brushes off Stalin's crimes. It describes him as "the most successful leader of the USSR". But it skates over the colossal human cost - 25m people were shot and starved in the cause of communism.

"Political repression was used to mobilise not only rank-and-file citizens but also the ruling elite," it says. In other words, Stalin wanted to make the country strong, so he may have been a bit harsh at times. At any time since the collapse of Soviet totalitarianism in the late 1980s, that would have seemed a nauseating whitewash. Now, it is treated as bald historical fact.
For the east European countries with first-hand experience of Stalinist terror, the Kremlin's rewriting of history could hardly be more scary. Not only does Russia see no reason to apologise for their suffering under Kremlin rule, it now sees the collapse of communism not as a time of liberation, but as an era of pitiable weakness.

Russia barely commemorates even the damage it did to itself, let alone the appalling suffering inflicted on other people. Nashi is both a symptom of the way Russia is going - and a means of entrenching the drift to fascism.

Terrifyingly, the revived Soviet view of history is now widely held in Russia. A poll this week of Russian teenagers showed that a majority believe that Stalin did more good things than bad.

If tens of thousands of uniformed German youngsters were marching across Germany in support of an authoritarian Fuhrer, baiting foreigners and praising Hitler, alarm bells would be jangling all across Europe. So why aren't they ringing about Nashi?

Russian porn is usually some sort of sick perverted sh!t.
Anyways, yeah, but like the article says they are due to lose 1 million population per year in the next few years. That's almost 1% decline per year. Demographically catastrophic. Desperate times call for desperate measures. That Nashi group is really creepy though, although Russia has a history of these kinds of youth movements, but they do seem to be really dumb and thuggish with some of the new ones. With the ones under USSR, everyone pretty much had to sign up, so they had the whole cross section of the population, but this one it's the dumb loyal ones. One problem with Russia is that the people who would have kids if they had some resources and housing don't have much, but the resources are concentrated in the hands of very ambitious few who are more interested in careers and luxuries than having kids. And they want to live in Moscow, where all the action is, but real estate is expensive, so having a big family is usually out of the question. Or by the time a woman feels like she is in good enough financial shape to have kids her reproductive health may not be up to the task anymore.
So the state is trying all sorts of programs to raise birthrates, from subsidies, to of course encouraging dumb young women to procreate, which is even cheaper. Mostly the high birth rates are in Muslim areas where women aren't very ambitious and just want to have kids and raise them, and men don't drink (as much as the Russians) and are more family oriented (often with multiple families). It's not uncommon for women there to have more than 5 kids.

Disturbingly enough, much of this is a mirror image of future America. Our own birth rate is right on the tip of replacement levels, the native-born population will begin shrinking soon as the birth rate continues to decline. Our high migration rate will offset this loss for quite a while, but having a high reliance on migration for population growth can have negative social consequences.

Barring a major shift in society, what countries like Russia, Japan, and Western Europe do will probably be the same things we're going to have to do within the next century.

Not really a big issue for America, since we are much better at assimilating people and mixing them in.

LOL i find it funny that IMO this country is not to far from what Russia is doing. We have leaders saying (blindly) trust me, laws that favor the whole rather then the individual rights, and we are excepting the basic framework (ie fear mongering, patriot act, etc.) needed to take steps even closer to Russia.

Kind of a desperation move on his part... Russia's life expectancy is pathetic. Especially for males. There are nearly three times as many abortions as live births... the population has shrunk dramatically since the end of the cold war... Not to mention the brain drain.

Russia is a mess. Nobody wants to be/move there so they kind of have to breed their way out. Good luck with that.

He has the right idea but going about it wrong.

Too many of the hot Russian women have left, many came to the U.S. but they are scattered all across the globe.

He should focus on making things better at home and the natural thing would occur.

The same goes for the U.S.

The only reason population is not decling here is because it is merging with Mexico.

I'd be interested in seem demographic information from the 1800s and early 20th century. The United States is kind of an isolated experiment where there isnt a single demographic that dominated. Our country is founded on what, 120 million immigrants from Europe?

So the fact we are relying on immigration to continue our upwards climb in population isnt all that uncommon for us. The only difference is from where they come from now, vs where they were coming from 100 years ago.

True, Russia's population and government feel threatened that semi-European way of life and culture will be replaced with Asian culture due to Muslim and Chinese expansion. This is why some leadership has crazy ideas like Nashi movement.
I've been in the US for 12 years and comparing to 1995 I noticed that assimilation process in the US is not going all that great other, more and more people move here in live in their enclaves without developing allegiance to the US. Who knows, it could happen that in 50 years democracy here will look a lot like democracy in Venezuela or Mexico...

hehehe, I doubt Slavic Russians would appreciate that, they already have enough problems with Georgians, Tajiks, Chinese, Chechens, Tatars, etc... We would have to find a solution for illegal immigration ourselves

Really? That's why we have muslim-only schools in NY and Michigan, we have schools still segregated, we have street signs in major cities that are in foreign languages, we have parts of cities that are dedicated to one culture/race and we have colleges that ban criticism of one religion, but not another. I fail how to see we do that good of a job assimilating people.

We have Catholic schools and universities too. At the end it all works out because the draw of the American culture is too strong. Sure, some groups here and there don't want to assimilate, but taken overall, people do assimilate over time.

catholic schools are not state or federally-funded, unlike the muslim schools I mentioned. But in any case, it's my observation that this country is becoming less integrated and more segregated. And we allow it in the name of diversity and political-correctness.

I have no doubt that there are westerners there hoping to cash in on the gold rush of opportunity there... But the outflow is much greater than the inflow...

Those that made it to the Western Europe and US and got established - probably, but you can definitely sit much bigger shitholes surrounding Russia, so ppl from Ukraine, Moldova, Central Asia, etc all are moving to Russia in a hurry. The problem is quality of immigration, not the quantity:) At the same time I can't say that the ones immigrating from former USSR to the US are the best and the brightest, the education level definitely went down since the collapse, and I've seen many fairly successful(finance-wise) people, come to the US, check it out for couple of years and move back, they mostly complain about how much cost of living in the US is higher than in old country, and that they can't maintain their lifestyle.
