Lots of jealousy here. LOL!

Berkeley has more Nobel Prize winners than most countries. They just won another one last year. Berkeley is an awesome place to study. Wish I had the brains to go there! :(

<< man their sure are alotta berkeley bashers on here, to me berkeley sounds like a really great school to go to and experience, seems like a lot of you are just jealous >>

Berkeley is a socialist training camp, regardless of what some may claim. If I were jealous of any University it would be Hillsdale College in Michigan. Hillsdale does not take any Federal money and is exempt from the mandates that are attached to Federal money.

My girlfriend's dad wanted her to go there for that reason alone. He is a hardcore libertarian.

<< Then next time take the hint :) >>

The hint that you can't come up with original smack or that I shouldn't bother reading a conservative's thread?
>>

The hint that joining a thread to flame instead of debate reveals your age and lack of maturity far too easily.

Try not to be so transparent :)

To be honest with you, I really didn't see where I flamed you.

I said -

1. this was a repost
2. was this liberal topic a little too rich for your blood since you are a vocal conservative.

Other than the truth, I didn't say anything to start a flame fest.

Don't forget though that Berkeley is still a rockin' school and its legitimate programs will always be among the nation's best

I never said it wasn't but laughing at a school promoting things like this is a far cry from Jealousy that some here have so ignorantly claimed :)

It's not ok. But don't bash the school. Like you said it was the students who did it not the school. All the freaking decal classes are tought by students for students. All you need is a minimal aproval from 1 professor and they don't check up on you at all.

The school is awesome and a great place to study at (yes, I went to cal until a few years ago).

tuition is about $2500/semester for undergrads (or that's what it used to be a few years ago).
these are just filler classes (1 unit) incase you need an easy/interesting one to have enough units that semester.

I wish you guys would understand a little bit more about the school before you start flaming it, these classes aren't real classes, they are just for kicks, something to gain a few units and learn something new, i don't agree with this whole orgy thing, yes that's pretty wrong, but there are some really kewl de-cals that are offered each year, some from past years include stuff like, The simpsons, how to DJ, Copwatch, just a bunch of different things that you can't get from any school. Its also a great experince for students to run their own class. How many schools offer that, not including being a TA, thats more like helping run someone else's class. Check out he de-cal wesite before you keep on flaming.

When you say "kids" do you realize that you're referring to adults who are definitely older than 18 and probably 21 or 22? While it was definitely unprofessional and improper of the instructor who held the "orgy" it doesn't sound like anyone was coerced. They were consenting adults. They probably should have had more sense than to do what they did. So maybe they're stupid, but not necessarily the school.
As for it being "OK" that depends on who is projecting their morality on to the situation--you obviously don't think it's OK.
Quite frankly, if students want to have an extracurricular orgy or take a field trip to a gay strip club, as long as students who object and don't wish to participate aren't penalized for it, I don't much care either way.

Further, you beat on the school, but it clearly states that the classes are developed and funded by students under loose faculty supervision. Aside from the fact they get credits for this, it's hardly different from a registered club. The advisor tripped up pretty hard, but you can't blame Berkeley as a school, this time.
Hell.....at least they actually try to be on the "cutting edge" when it comes to education instead of lazily employing a bunch of fat tenured professors who don't care if the students learn anything as long as they don't have to be bothered. The de-cal program obviously needs a little bit of revision, but conceptually, it's better than a lot of the crap other schools offer.
Berkeley's done some harebrained things, but there are other schools, swinging conservatively and liberally that have all done some stupid things. Fault them for those, but I don't think this event should reflect on Berkeley as a school.

i dont know how much a lot of you know about berkeley, but there are a lot of conservatives there, even if they dont get too much press.

only because in berkeley, it's cool to be anti-whatever is popular , people take a lot of pride there being a conservative thinker.

plus you got all the frat guys, who are all closet conservatives, but pretend to be liberal to get chicks.
