SEVERE problem in XP! Help!

This happened all of a sudden. Every executable I try to run (EXE files), a windows pops out saying "windows cannot open this file"

And then you have 2 choices -

- Use the web service to find the appropriate program

- Select the program from a list

Any ideas????

Windows keeps track of file extentions in the registry... Try to do a repair by booting to the CD, or boot to last known good configuration...
