severe hard drive problems

got new hard drive 250gig... all is fine but after a few hours it just wont boot up again... just get a flashing cursor in the screen... onl thing i can do is reformat from there... done it three times now and the same problem...

formatted all from scratch... its fine for about five hours reboooting etc after installing everthing... but after that it just stops working... it works fine using it till the reboot...

can anyone help please...

is it an IDE or SATA ?
what motherboard do u use ?

you might want to try updating the BIOS and motherboard drivers.

its an ide hard drive the 250GB Hitachi Deskstar 7K2507,200RPM / 8MB Buffer...

bios reads the hard drive fine...

dell dimension 8200 series bios version A08...

as far as motherboard i havve no idea... edit - intel850...

how do i upgrade both motherboard and bios drivers...

ran disk diagnostics and says nothing wrong with it...

eh im thinking it could be your trying to put it into a dell computer. ive heard of issues with similar things regarding dells. only thing i can tell you is to delete your primary partion and then make a new primary and set it active and install the os. maybe that will help you out.

done that 4 times now...

the latest BIOS for your system is A09 ( i think )

since i am not familiar with your board you might want to as around in Dell Forums

not getting any help at dellforums... seems to not be bios or motherboard related from what i have read there...

anyone else got any ideas...
