Several Video Capture Questions

Recently I acquired an hauppage winTV card. The card is pretty much meant to be used as a TV tuner, however I acquired it to capture video with as well. The problem is that the card doesn't have an onboard hardware to encode with, so it pretty much relies on my cpu power. Since I have a celeron366 @ 500MHz, that's not such a good thing. I was wondering if anyone was using this card to do any high resolution capturing (640x480 and up) with a faster system. Or if anyone would like to suggest a really good recording program that I can use in conjunction with this card. I have winDVR, but I am not a fan of mpegI and II. I plan on getting an AthlonXP in a few weeks, so I'm really searching for either a better software capture program.

thanks in advance.

I've done video capture on a Duron 600 MHz at 320 x 240 without any problems, but 640 x 480 video capture is guaranteed to be choppy with your current CPU. I can capture 640 X 480 avi files with my Athlon 1.1 GHz rig without any choppiness thru Ulead Video Studio or the WinTV 2000 software app. I tend to use Windows Movie Maker over other software I have because I like the .wmv format better than MPEG, and I can keep file sizes much smaller for web site content (less bandwidth use). If you're doing serious video editing then use something like Adobe Premiere or Ulead MediaStudio Pro. They're expensive but have a lot of encoding options. You might even consider a dedicated hardware video capture card later on if you want to get serious about it.

Thanks for the info, I was interested in how a GHz+ cpu would work. I didn't want to go out and buy one and have the same problems.
