Several of my internet applications cant connect, how do i check if the ports are blocked?

Several of my internet applications cant connect, how do i check if the ports are blocked? Im on a college network and from my computer i cant use emule or sign on aol, i was able to do both 2 days ago. Yet other people such as the guy next door can use both just fine...what the heck is wrong?

i think grc.com has a port prober that allows you to probe whatever port you want to see if its open closed etc
