Hey everyone, i built my first athlon 64 system this past weekend, and so far it seems to running pretty good. I preloaded Half Life 2 through steam, and the game makes my system lock up. The first time i tried to run it, it changed the resolution but did not start up, i just saw my desktop. That was ok, i could get out of it and kill the app. Next time, it does the valve screen, then goes to the loading screen like somethings going to happen, but it just sits there and completely locks up my system. The only thing i can do is reset it. The other program that locks up my system is nV Monitor. Whenever i try to start the program, it never starts, but my system locks up almost immediately. Can anyone help me figure this out? I'm thinking it might possibly be a driver issue, but i'm not sure. Half Life 2, could possibly be a video driver problem, i'm using the 71.84 for Windows XP MCE. I'm not 100% sure of the chipset drivers i'm using, but its the ones that came on the gigabyte cd. I'm not sure if they're the newest nForce4 drivers. But here's my setup:
AMD Athlon64 3800+
Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI
BFG 256MB DDR3 GeForce 6800GT OC PCIe
1GB Dual Channel OCZ EL PC3200 Platinum Rev. 2
Enermax 701 Noisetaker 600W PSU
SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Platinum (not using the audigy drive)
160GB and 250GB Seagate SATA Barracuda HDDs
40GB WD and 80GB Maxtor HDDs
NEC ND-3500A DVD+/-RW DL
TDK 48X CD-RW
There's a few other devices, not sure if they're important to this or not though.
Edit: Doom 3 runs just fine, if anyone wanted to know.
