Seventeen or Bust Config Q.

Overkiller

Hi,

new to the SB team

Just a few q's about the config.

Under priority should i leave it to idle, or change it to low, Normal?
-I.e. will there be any performance gains by changing the priority level?

Should i transmit any intermediate blocks?

HOw large should i make the log file or leave it to the default of 0

Any other tweaks i can make?

This is running on
1.2 Ghz Tbird, 512MB PC-133 ram ( i believe increasing FSB would help)

Lastly:

Can anyone explain to me the ranking system?
(such as cEMs/sec...<--- lesser when multiple processes are occuring/right?)

Thank you very very much all and hope i can make a difference to team anandtech!

Hi, welcome to TA Sob...

- Yes, you should leave it in idle;
- Intermediate blocks it's more of a fancy taste. it produces a better distributed line on the stats when set to send 🙂 ;
- the log file depends on how good you are on hdd space. trial and error is the best indicator;
- Up the Fsb and reduce the multiplier 🙂;
- cEM is a more like a display of the speed your client is working. not that straight forward, but gives a good picture if its working ok.
Also, the K and N are some variants to change the speed of the client;

Best regards,

Thx,

Left the Program on "idle"
Upped the log file from 0 K to 1.5 MB
Going to up FSB later (it can go up to ~150+)

So stats are basically the amt. of work completed and not how hard the computer worked on that particular "work block" or a combination of both. Thanks for the help!

I run all my clients on low priority and it works good for me. I don't know if it makes a difference though.

I think Stormgiant pretty much said everything! 🙂

Leaving it at idle is best, that way if any other programs need the CPU, then SoB will give it up 🙂

Transmitting intermediate blocks will, as said, make the graph smoother. If you're on broadband, then there is no harm in letting it transmit intermediate blocks 🙂

If you leave the log file size at 0, it will use however much is needed 🙂

Overclock that baby! 😉🙂

cEMs/sec is the current "speed" that you're working at. This will be calculated over the entire time that the client is open, and the total work you have done while it is open. Therefore, don't be surprised to see that the rate decreases the more you use your computer, and do other things 🙂 This is quite normal 🙂

Welcome to the TeAm, I hope you enjoy your stay, and of course, feel free to ask if you have any problems 🙂

Also, look out for the daily stats thread, posted by either myself, or MrFiTTy, depending if I'm around at the time to do it 🙂

Confused

i run idle on pc's i use, dedicated crunchers i bump up to low
i set the log file to 1024
i always transmit intermediate blocks so i can see my progess in more detail

Thank you So much everyone for your helpful responses.
Love the forums and glad to help out the team.

close to 137000 cEMS while surfing the net. Pretty good!

Most tests take about 12+ hrs to complete on a config like mine if left alone right?
Might just put it on the old pc upstairs that's on dial up and have it take its sweet time..at least it'd be *something* (p3 450, 512 PC-100 sdram)
