Seven degrees of separation---from Anandtech

RU482

Lifer
OK, I've met people in the most unexpected places that are members of Anandtech Forums. That got me to thinking (without getting to mathematical about it) how many degrees of separation do you suppose there are between Anandtech members??? 🙂
(the relation being membership, not blood relation)

I don;t know of the any BYU - Provo people in the forums...would be weird to run into one of them at school...

<< I haven't met anyone yet, but every time I go to school I half expect someone to yell out 'Hey Gonad!' The sad part is, I would probably turn around. >>

I bet I would turn around too if someone was shouting about gonads.

I know only 2 other AT members. Actually one now. The other was stupid and got his dumb ass banned for intentionally starting a flame war.

<< I don't know any... anyone live in NYC? 🙂 >>

Wow! ZOD, 515 posts since OCT 1999? That's gotta be the lowest postcount, per day, ever! :Q I frequent AT almost everyday (heck, I'm on the web anyway...might as well "check in"...) and I can honestly say that this is the first time I've ever seen your name. Wow. me\<--finds this friggin'amazing!

Back to the thread. Interesting title..I have to admit, it piqued my interest. Not that I really understand what the hell you want me to say...but it got my attention. 😉

Well, I'm in South Texas. I've chatted, via PM (don't do that ICQ thing...leaves too many ports open) with some other folks here in TX, but TX is a B-I-G place. To my knowledge, the closest AT member is about a 4-hour drive away. If someone was in my city, I would absolutely go meet them anywhere, anytime.

This may sound weird, or even sad...but AT has become a big part of my life. I originally came here to ask a very, very basic question about building a new system...that was 13 months ago...I never even clicked OT until about 6 or 7 months ago. It's Off Topic that got my postcount way up there!

What's neat about AT is that it's moderated; meaning they keep it clean, here. NO cussing, racial/ethnic/sexual slurs are permitted. Offenders are dealt w/decisively and severely. Don't get me wrong; I'm not wuss or a prude..heheheheheh far from it :Q But it's nice to be able to be a member of a quality-type BB. The thing that brought us all here was computer hardware/software, but for me, what keeps me here is the camraderie (sp?) Warm fuzzies all around!

i only know 2 other ppl on this board in real life...both from NYC

i'm always down for meeting ppl tho, cuz i travel around quite a bit, ATOT is definitely a good place for information gathering in regards to wherever my current location may be...i tend to move around a bit...

<-- lived/from NYC
<-- current homebase is Dallas, TX
<-- 2ndary homebase since July 2001 has been Salt Lake City, UT

I can do it in 1 degree....I'm on ATOT, and I know me...
Seriously though, don't really know anybody, but willing to.
Know of a few others in my area, but don't know them.
BTW, I'm near Layton, UT.

There's a lot of people who go to my school (Cal) and plenty are into computers.

When I'm at the library or the computer lab and on the AT forums, this is how I imagine the scenario would play out:

Random Guy: Hey wait, those are the AT forums. You post on that?
Me:: Yeah sometimes. Not that much though (that of course would be a lie)
Random Guy: Wow, I never expected to meet any of those people in real life. So what's your handle?
Me:: Well, the nickname's kinda silly...but I'm b0mbrman
Random Guy: Oh <awkward silence> I hate you. You're such an a*shole
Me:: 🙁

the scary thing about ATOT people is that they look just like everyone else. well almost everyone else. well like everyone else who knows their way around a computer.

that guy sitting across the meeting room from you could be one!

BWAAHAHHAHAHAHA....LMAO!!!...dang....that'd be totally messed up and funny at the same time....hehe... 😛

I met a local guy from AT once to buy some stuff from him. That's it though. I know of 2 other people from AT that are local (Maetryx and ShotgunSteve), but I've never met either of them.

I know there's tons of people from LA here, and a bunch from UCLA, where I went to school, I probably passed many in the halls of Boelter and Math Sciences 🙂 Never run into one randomly though. My brother and sister are registered, but they don't count, I guess 🙂

It could be worse... imagine meeting someone like Texmaster in real-life...

*shivers*

The horror.... the horror....

MichaelD -

That'd be .60 posts per day. And I think I was around longer than that, the BBS got changed over a coupla years back, so everyone starts from that day or later.
Was mostly a hot deals guy back when $10 of $10/free shipping at buy.com and $120 free at Value America and WMC were not only myth and legend.
I'll check in, just not post 25 msgs 😀

I know someone who goes to my college here (datalink7 or something) but I've never met him.... too lazy 😀

i actually lurked in the hot deals forum for 6 months or so before i bothered to reg - i've got to have fairly low post count/days ratio

(anyone else in atlanta ??)
