Setup VPN on my Netgear Router! Need help connecting with my Laptop

So I setup a Netgear VPN/Firewall/Wireless router at work so I can VPN to do some work from time to time.

I'm totally new to VPN's so I don't have the slightest clue on how to connect to the network.

So, here are some example settings for my router, how would I connect to it with my laptop?

Connection Name: WORKVPN
Local IPSec: WORKLANVPN
Remote IPSec Id: PCIPSEC
Remote LAN IP Add: 192.168.1.1
Remote LAN Subnet: 255.255.255.255
Remote WAN IP Add: 12.0.0.1

Secure Association: Main Mode
Perfect Forward Secrecy: Enabled
Encryption Protocol: DES
PreShared Key: SomeKey
Key Life: 3600
IKE Life Time: 28800


Sample Router Settings
WAN Port

IP Address 123.23.43.153
DHCP No
IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Domain Name Server 0.0.0.0

LAN Port

IP Address 192.168.77.7
DHCP DHCP Server
IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

I know I need VPN software on my laptop but, which ones would you guys recommend? I prefer it to be free but, I will sacrifice for the sake of working in the confort of my home.

What VPN software does your Netgear support/recommend?

SafeNet SecureIP, but I just downloaded SSH Sentinel which was bought out by SafeNet.

Edit: I will be travelling so my IP will be dynamic and I know that will affect my configuration.

is it possible to use the router (Netgear FVM318) as a switch instead of a router? And configure the LAN ports to accept the VPN connection?

So basically I want to VPN into the netgear and be issued an IP from our initial router or does it have to be on the first hop ?

Me on Laptop -------> Linksys (work's primary router) ------> Netgear (used as a switch and the VPN)


Is this possible? Do I need to configure our main router to allow connections to the netgear?

If memory serves the FVS318 and FVM318 will only VPN with other routers of that same type or Netgear VPN software.
