So I just upgraded from an ABIT NF7-s to the DFI NF4 Ultra-D. I know that XP doesnt like that kind of stuff, but I tried the Sysprep and that didnt work. So I am trying to do a repair install, and setup hangs on the "setup is detecting..." thing, before the setup actually opens. I hear the CD eventually spin down and stop, and then nothing happens. I have tried different drives, different cables, even used the SERIALLE thingy to plug it into the SATA ports. Im going to try a new CD, but I used it on 3 other machines today, and it worked fine, no problems (all the other computers were new NF7-S's). But on the DFI, it wont work.

I did a memtest, and there were no errors, and it booted up just fine from the CD. So, I dont know what to do now...

EDIT

I am using an Antec true380s, zalman 7700ALCU, MSI 6600GT w/zalman 700ALCU, onborad audio, 2x 120GB IDE drives (no raid) and a memorex cd-rw/dvd reader

With that sort of upgrade, you're well advised to go about a fresh install to get the most out of your new hardware.

Your best option is to format and perform a clean install, or to do a reinstall instead of a repair, if you want to save data first.

If the IDE drives happen to be Western Digitals and either of them is solo on its own cable, then make sure it's set to Single Drive by removing the jumper from the pins altogether.

They are actually BOTH WD's, but they are, and have always been, Pri Master and Slave. These drives also seem to not be able to work without the other... I tried pulling the second drive out to get a CD Image, but It was decteted, but not useable...

UPDATE: I cleared the BIOS, and it seem to be working so far... but Ill have to wait and see... and without a new CD Image none the less!

UPDATE (Again!): It seems as though Windows wont let me use a repair installation, so I guess itll do for now. This way I guess I can back everything up and then do a fresh install...
