Setup a Wireless Router as a Repeater

History:
Have a wireless router in another room but the signal is too weak for the wireless PCI adapter card in my PC. If I move the PC with the wireless PCI adapter card up close to the ceiling, then I will be able to receive the signal.

The plan is to purchase the D-Link 624 108G wireless router and use it as a repeater. I'm going to position the 624 near the ceiling and augment it's reception capability with a directional antenna if necessary. The 624 will act as a repeater and be hard wired to my PC using CAT5 cable to reduce transmission loss.

So, can I use the 624 as a repeater in this manner? Any hints with the configuration?

TIA.

Nope. Router/AP's don't repeat as a general rule. The Linksys WRT54G has aftermarket firmware that adds WDS functionality so if your Primary supports WDS you'd be ok with that one. If it does not then you'll want to buy an AP that has repeating functionality but the same Mfg of your AP/Router.

No. Non WDS repeating is many time proprietary. Might work. Might not. May come from the ISP but it would still have a make and model on it somewhere.

When you get the AP check the AP's Brand site they might offer a repeater.

Looks like I will have to build a directional can antenna. Just hope the line loss of the 6-7 ft coax doesn't completely wipe out the signal.

Thanks ALL for your inputs!
