setup a sata hd changed bios to other boot device now drive fails at start?

runnind a asus a7v600 mobo set up a single sata hd change my bios from ide to other boot device now system fails to see hd and ask me to press f1. question is this a sata bootup thing where i need to press f1 all of the time or is it a bad drive?, all seems good once i enter windows xp pro

is the sata on the mobo? should it be ide?

i'm betting the drive is ok, it just isnt configured correctly. (hardware configed wrong with mobo settings)

I havent got much experience with sata, so this is kinda vague
