Anybody planning on trying this thing out? It comes out today as a free download.
Hopefully it will be stable enough to actually play this weekend :)

That skill tree is about the hardest to read thing ever... you would think they would actually name all the skills. I was considering moving there from Eq2 until Vanguard comes out, but might be I just won't now. I personnally think they will be a very small fry in the MMORPG world.

This was kind of a given because of their expected pvp system.
The skill tree was baffling because it didnt tell you much and wasnt descriptive at all.
The best I can come up with is paladins dont have access to 2H swords or Hammers which is really wierd.

The only plausible excuse I can come up with is a language barrier is showing up.

That's if you paid $60 for a game that you couldn't play for 6 months, that you didn't know was good or bad.

Guys, I wouldn't expect much from this game. The beta sucked more than any beta has sucked in the history of betas.

In fact, given how many MMO's of it's generation that were canceled and were better, I'm surprised they are still running. WISH had bad gameplay but was a beautiful world, it got canceled. Another similar game got canceled just prior to beta IIRC. DnL looked good on paper, but WISH looked a LOT better in person and my experience in the game was terrible.

The only game I could consider worse was Freeworld's alpha, but at least that game had a working character creation.

Well i hope they get it fixed. On paper this looks like a really good game.

Never trust the paper. In my years in the MMO genre, the paper has always lied.

That is true, WoW looked great on paper but is avg at best.
Ill still try it out and see how it goes. Warhammer Online is probably the next big MMORPG for me anyways. If D&L ends up being good it will draw me away from WoW. If it sucks, Ill play WoW until Warhammer.

There are a number of areas in which I think WoW actually is "average at best." But on balance there are quite a few ways in which it was easily the best of the genre, and still is. And obviously it has been a commercial success unlike anything previously seen.

Lineage and Lineage II.

WoWs marketshare is 22%, while those other two titles represent 45%.

I dunno about that. To me, WoW delivered everything I had expected from the hype that preceded it. Maybe I didn't do quite enough "paper" reading, but all my expectations were definitely met. If WoW is average, then the developers merely promised an average game from the onset.

Lineage and Lineage II.

Good point. I tend to leave out the Pacific region games and some of them have massive subscriber bases. Should have clarified that I was thinking of the U.S. market.

I didn't pay the $60... I got an email a while back offering me the ability to pre-register my character name. I did that, and a couple of weeks later got an email saying I was accepted to be a pioneer in SoG.. maybe i misunderstood and need to re-read my email but I thought I was all set for SoG when it was available. Unfortunately I didn't have a chance to try last night, so I'll attempt to check it out when I get home from work tonight.
