Settlers 7 demo

pontifex

Lifer
I loved the previous settlers game and I just saw that the demo for this one is out now and the full game is available on STEAM.

Installed the demo but haven't had a chance to play it yet.

Even the demo requires that you be connected to UBISoft to play it. 🙁

If it's as good as or better than 6, I might have to buy it any way.

ugh...the graphics suck ass and seem all blurry. art style definitely sucks.

gameplay has been made unnecessarily complex too. This is nothing like the previous game. why do companies have to screw up a good thing?

I've read that it is a lot like Settlers 3 (which is considered the best by most fans of the series). But, I am in the same boat, with that DRM I am not touching it. Soon as DRM is gone or has an offline mode they will get my money.

Actually, I liked Settlers IV the best.

Settlers III was good, but whatever DRM they used on the CD has made it unplayable.
It will install fine, but it won't recognize the CD 🙄

Just another example of a legitimate customer getting screwed over by DRM, and why I won't buy DRM'd games.

Can't download it here in Afghanistan, but I went ahead and bought it on Steam anyway. Maybe I'll play it when I get back, I've never played a Settlers game before. But my primary motivation is to counteract some of the DRM haters in this thread. 😀

Well Ubisoft deserves the hate. Making DRM that won't work unless you have internet on is stupid as seen by the fact that the login servers have been down twice at least preventing customers from playing. But hey, they've got their money already, why bother making sure you actually get to play the game you bought 🙄

Its stupid for the single player portion of the game. Well not nec stupid but restricts purchases to folks who will be on the internet whenever playing the game. So if you travel, have unreliable service or you are stuck in Afghanistan then such games are not the game for you and yes there are numerous folks in the USA who either do not have inet service, have unreliable inet service or are stuck in Afghanistan and many folks who like to play games while traveling; hell what better activity on an 8 hour cross country trip with a 2 hour layover much less a 20 hour flight to Afghanistan 🙂

In fact you could consider this un-American not allowing the good folks in Afghanistan or Iraq the pleasure of playing; 'cept ubi-soft is a french company that probably enjoys screwing Americans 🙂

Patches? Well that's not a big deal; grab your favorite usb; go to your favorite library, school, coffee shop or similar and download the patches.

I thought the graphics were suppose to be on par with Anon 1401 which are pretty stunning if you ask me.

I dunno, it has this weird like blurry/fuzzy effect to it. i did see on the forums that having multisampling and antialiasing on causes this or something.

I ended up buying this during the steam sale. Wow, it's fun and addictive! Just got done playing 1 map for over 3 hours (skirmish vs. 3 AI opponents on easy). They made a bunch of changes to it vs. settlers 6 and some are good while others not so good. I still ahve to figure a few things out yet, maybe look through the manual. I definitely took advantage of the in-game tutorial popups and they helped a lot. Even though I am still going through the campaign (like 3rd or 4th mission) I am still seeing tutorial stuff.

I have Splinter Cell Conviction and Settlers 7 and the DRM has not caused me any problems so far...which interestingly enough, is the my same experience with every other DRM scheme out there.

Ubisoft = do not want since the days of Rayman 1.

I hated that game so much... It looked like ristar from the mega drive, it looked like it was good fun but goddamn it was murder, i always died in music world. I cheated to get to some of the higher levels and they looked like one of these mario rom mods, spikes everywhere! Insanely difficult for something that looked like a kids game heh.

haha, i remember that level, annoying as hell.

as soon as i played the demo and realized that they even had the login drm ON THE DEMO that this has just gone way too far.

i mean... they're essentially copying steam's drm to a point... but even steam offers an offline mode. and really if there were just an option for offline mode in this game... i'd have bought it MONTHS ago.
