never played the earlier ones, i've been playing Rise of an Empire and the Eastern Realms expansion. Pretty fun and when I play I end up playing each mission for several hours. I like building up big towns and stuff.
 
I don't want to tell you the time spent on the 5th mission, across the wasteland.

I haven't played civ before, so i cant tell you, this is real time and not turn based.

It's free so it's not like you are out $$ if you don't like it.
