given that a political settlement is crucial, why is he gazing from a distance?

doesnt he have the skills to help?

shouldnt he be using his executive influence and statesmanship to ease the transition and give the private reassurances that only he can give?

ah well we will have to wait till the end of the year for that.

Wow - another of these. So what would people complain about if Bush was directly involved in all this - like in actually being over there and "influencing" it? You think people wouldn't scream bloody murder at him supposedly "empire building"? There are enough wack-jobs who think that already - he'd be stupid to do as you suggest. I guess I'd rather have people complain about him "sitting back" and letting the Iraqis decide though.:)

Bush wants to get the hell out of Iraq. If he gets involved with the process and it fails he can't blame the Iraqis

No - he can't get involved because people like you would throw a hissy fit and claim he's not letting the Iraqi's decide their future.
