I've wanted one of these for a while, and at least, these have the possibility of 3rd-party firmware (mostly just AsusWRT-Merlin for now), whereas the AX routers are a bit sketchy about even potential future 3rd-party firmware support right now.

i think i got one for 100 a few years ago, had issues with it overheating so i beefed up the heatsink and also installed a fan before giving it away to my mom. it hasnt overheated since but it would stall before that
