OK, heres the situation....
There are 2 PCs, both are dual boot Windows98/Linux machines. We have 2 linksys ethernet cards.
I say we could just install the 2 cards and connect the PCs with a CAT5 cable.
He says, you have to have a hub or switch. He says you can't go from card to card without something in between. He keeps telling me about how ethernet cards output DC and it has to get converted or something. I don't know what he is talking about.

So am I right?
 
Heh, he's wrong. NIC -> NIC all you need is a cross over cable (yes it's CAT 5).

Where do people get these strange ideas?
 
little bit of advice - bet him a sizable amount of money first and shake on it with a notarized signature.

then show him what's up and collect!
