I am in an argument and would like to know the answer to this question:

Is it legal to show US currency, cash or coin, in movies, on TV or in print Advertisements, or must some change be made, like only showing half a bill.

thanks

I know that if printed, it must be shown as 150%(or larger) of original size, or 75%(or smaller) of original size.

There is no restriction that i'm aware of against showing U.S. currency via any medium, be it print, tv, movies, or anything else. If i had to guess, the reason real currency isn't used most of the time is because it's much easier (not to mention cheaper) to use something else other than the genuine article. After all, props have a way of "disappearing," and that's with stuff that doesn't even have intrisic value to speak of.

They don't have to, it is just that there is no 555 exchange so it is easier that way.

I don't think they have to even use a fake number, I think they do it out of courtesy, so Jenny (867-5309) doesn't happen again.

btw I know you can't show someone drinking alcohol on TV, which is weird.

A slight correction. You cannot show people drinking alcohol in an alcohol commercial. You can show people drinking alcohol in regular TV shows.

In Aussie land, they show people drinking alcohol on TV. But our laws on what we can/can't show are a lot less lax than the USA.

Before you guys were born, the counterfeit lawa did not allow money to be photographed.
That is, if you photographed paper money ,,you were violating the counterfiet laws.
even if you just photographed paper money for a movie.
That is why real money was never used in the old movies, or TV.

There's an 867 exchange in the next town over from where I live. (419) 867-5309 is a church I believe, or at least that's what people who claim to have called the number said.
