I am ready to build my first system and desperately need some guidance.

On the motherboard (& any other components), what are the recommended settings on my DFI Ultra-D NF4? Do I leave everything on default settings? I was reading the mobo manual yesterday and I didn't have a clue as to what it was saying.

My system is as follows:
Athlon64 3000+
Corsair Value 1 GB
Leadtek PX6600GT TDH
Seagate Barracuda 200G SATA
NEC 3520A DVD
Pioneer CD
Mitsumi 7 in 1 floppy
OCZ Powerstream 420W
Coolermaster Wave Master

PascalT, we have a very similar system. Can you tell me how you set everything up? What else should I do when first configure & setting up my system? I am a newbie so you can start from the very basic.

Here are some questions I have for now:

1. What slots (Channel A 1 & 2, and B 1 & 2) do I stick the memory in?
2. PS/2 and USB Power Select - do I leave it on default (5V) or 5VSB? What is "PS/2 keyboard or mouse to wake up system"?
3. S/PDIF-out setting - do I leave it on default (S/PDIF-out via ALC850) or nForce4?
4. DRAM 4V Select - do I leave it on default or "Expand DRAM's Voltage up to 4V"?
5. Do I have to set any jumpers?
ETC.

You need to visit DFI-Street and Xtreme. Both have a lot of threads on the DFI board and experienced users there to help.

1. What slots (Channel A 1 & 2, and B 1 & 2) do I stick the memory in?

If you want to run 2 sticks of ram in dual channel, then slots 2 and 4 (orange).

2. PS/2 and USB Power Select - do I leave it on default (5V) or 5VSB? What is "PS/2 keyboard or mouse to wake up system"?

Leave it off (default). If ya don't know what it is, you probably don't need it.

3. S/PDIF-out setting - do I leave it on default (S/PDIF-out via ALC850) or nForce4?

default

4. DRAM 4V Select - do I leave it on default or "Expand DRAM's Voltage up to 4V"?

default (seeing a pattern here?)

5. Do I have to set any jumpers?

Not unless something goes to hell.

Seriously, read through the manual and it will answer most of your questions. But ideally, you'll want to stick all your hardware in there, and run at the defaults. Get the system up and running that way, then start tweaking things if you wish.

the manual says nothing about bios settings, so i see where he's coming from.

like i said tho, load optimized default settings and you're pretty much set. I didn't change many things aside from overclocking.

if whats posted on here doesn't help you, i don't know what will. People that work for DFI support run those boards. It helped me a lot.

I just registered with DFI Streets but can't post yet for some reason.

In the meantime, I have questions re. the BIOS. Are there any change from the default settings that I need/should make in Standard CMOS, Advanced BIOS, etc.? In particular, do I change any of the voltage settings?
