I just got the belkin 1200va ups as seen on the hot deals forum. With this piece of hardware you can use it without the belkin software using just the windows xp software. But I want to use the belkin bulldog software. What are the recommended settings for windows and for bulldog? When you install the UPS windows recognizes it and in the power settings you have the options of having your monitor and hard drives go to standby after a certain time as well as the system going to standby after a certain time. If I want to just use the belkins software should I set the windows power management times to lets say 1 hour and the belkin times to less than that so that they take presidence?

On the Power Options dialog, click the Alarms tab. Just uncheck both sets of alarms and Windows shouldn't do anything. Just set all the individual settings for hard drive and monitor to never turn off when on battery. Then the bulldog software should handle everything. If both of them are enabled and you accidentally configure them with coinciding times, you'd end up with one piece of software trying to do one power saving mode, and the other one possibly competing.

Great, thanks for the info. I made the settings changes as you directed. Good advice.

Thanks.
