Settings for P4-1.7 Willy

I have to use an older comp at work (for 3D no less) and I need to maximize its speed.

The mb can run either at 100Mhz or 133Mhz and the system currently has 1GB of PC2100.

It supposedly can run the memory at 100Mhz w/ tigher timings than the 133Mhz.

The FSB of this chip is 400Mhz right?

Anyway. That should be the information you need.

Questions? I will answer as soon as I can.

Thanks for your help.

Is it?

Not only are your running at higher latency, but also asynchrounously with the CPU (running at 100 Mhz quad pumped = 400Mhz).

Anyone else have any comments?

Yep.

P4-1.7Ghz Williamette
SiS 645DX Chipset
2x512MB of DDR266 2.5-3-3-6
WD 20GB w/ 2MB
Windows 2K SP4
SiS AG315-64 64MB AGP4X Video Card

Just trying to maximize performance, kind of annoying to peg 100% CPU when minimizing and maximizing windows 🙁

Let me rephrase my question...

No, I won't be running the CPU at anything other than 100Mhz (i.e. 400Mhz FSB). But the BIOS has options for various splits for running the memory at different speeds...

CPU/Memory/PCI

100/133/33
100/100/33

So does the extra bandwidth make up for the asynchronous memory configuration?

Sorry to say, but the extra bandwidth or the lower latency won't make much of a differance, when your CPU is the bottleneck. An old 2MB cache hard drive isn't helping much either, you really aren't gonna get a noticable performance increase by tweaking the memory.
