I am setting up a new computer system with the following parts:

Cooler Master Wave Master Case
OCZ Powerstream 520w
DFI Lanparty Ultra-D MB
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Manchester CPU
4 512 MB OCZ PC-4000 Dual Channel Gold VX (total 2GB)
XFX Gforce 6600GT Video Card
2 WD Raptor WD740GD SATA Hard Drives
NEC ND-3540A DVD Burner
Creative Audigy2ZS Sound Card
Windows XP 2002 SP2

Updated the BIOS to the 6/23/2005 version.

I assembled the PC with the two SATA drives connected to SATA1 and SATA2 on the MB. I seem to recall reading somewhere that overclocking was better with the drives connected to SATA3 and SATA4. Is this true?

I want to overclock this system once I have it running properly at stock speeds. Can someone suggest the best settings for a good stable overclock. I don't want to run it on the edge, but I want to get as much as I can while keeping it good and stable.

Thanks.

Doesn't matter what SATA ports you use on that board, they are all locked. My OC was the same even with 3 of the 4 SATA ports being used. I have my 4200+ @2.618ghz. Just make sure you set the LDT multiplier to 4 for FSB between 200 and 250, 3x if you go past 350. I've also noticed that with 4 sticks of ram, I have to use a lower ram divider to keep my OC stable, even if the ram is running far below rated speed.

Well, I've gotten the system to run one pair of OCZ modules at 218 MHz, DRAM 2.60 volts with 2-3-3-8 1T without errors in memtest86+, but I cannot get the fours sticks to run without getting memtest86+ test 5 errors at any speed. What is the ram divider you were speaking of, Stevty2889?

bump that vdimm up to 2.7-2.8v.

edit -oh jeesh thats the vx. you need more volts than that man. its pc4000. you should be good up to 250mhz stock timings and volts.

i don't use vx but some of the others can help you with that i'm sure but even my tcc5 or infineon i run above 2.6v.

edit edit- check out the ocz support thread in cpu and the ocz boys will hook you up.

Yeah, I've tried every voltage from 2.6 to 3.2 and 2-2-2-6 timings at FSB 200 and 218. It always fails 95% of the way through memtest86+ test #5. Solid red. And that was even when I took out all but one 512 MB module. This is no fun. I can't even get it to run at its rated minimums. I wonder if there could be problems with something else. I've built hundreds of computers (really!) so I think it is put together correctly. One thing I noticed was that the Ultra-D didn't want to run with only three sticks in it. One, two or four were fine, but three, no boot. Anyone else have that happen? So what now?

I have the 24 pin ATX power hooked up (not just the 20 pins, my OCZ PS can be 20 or 24) I have the 4 pin +12v next to the ATX connector hooked up and I have the 5v/12v connector near the video card hooked up to. I wasn't sure if I should hook them all up, but I did and there was no smoke, this is correct then?

Yep 2T. But not happy yet. Trying a different BIOS next.
