was trying to turn a router into an A.P. today, it was almost working but I had forgotten to enable WEP so it could connect the the other router. Once I figured this out I went back into the4 room and booted XP and then it was coming up with my network icon and the ! on it saying limited or no connectivity. I tried hard resetting the router no dice, I rebooted, unplugged the router still no dice. I'm having a huge brain fart but what can I do to fix this? if i go into the network settings and try to repair the IP nada happens. ipconfig is showing a weird IP, like 168.254.180.53 or something. I cannot log on to the router to re-set it up. the IP it's giving me, not sure where it's coming from, I can ping it but can't connect to it.
So I booted to Vista to try it from there, but of course device manager is saying there's a problem with the driver for the network card (built in P35 one) and I can't get online to download the new driver without first having internet access.
What am I missing here? I would say my networking ability is pretty decent but I'm sure not coming up with what's the obvious answer here.
