I bought a Netgear Wireless (b) USB adapter for my roommates computer (Win 98 SE) that connects to a wireless router in my room. After I installed the driver, and connected the adapter, everything looked like it should be working, but when I went to open up IE or Firefox, the computer couldn't actually connect to the Internet. I tried fooling around with both the adapter's settings as well as the Networking control panel, but I don't know that much about networking, so I wasn't able to fix the situation.
We usually share the connection by just passing the cable modem and cat 5 back and forth between the two rooms, so I'm wondering if anyone can tell me:
1. do I need to change the settings on my roommates PC so that it looks for the USB adapter instead of the cat 5?
2. are there any websites people would recommend as good resources for reading up on networking issues and networking in general.
Thanks in advance.
