I wanna try something here.

I have DSL Internet service, and an external 56k modem connected to my Windows XP machine.
Will the "Incoming Connections" network thingy set up for the modem allow someone to dial in and access the Internet via my machine and therefore via my ISP?

And what am I supposed to do to make this thing actually pick up on incoming phone calls? Right now it just kind of sits there and ignores rings.

You should be able to get it to work, but it may be a little tricky. Make sure you enable sharing on the DSL connection...you might also need to set the IP address of your XP machine as the Gateway address on the dialing machine. I'm sure you can get it done, but it may take a lot of trial and error. That's been my experience with any kind of Windows networking.

Fixed the pickup problem.

I saw a random 'article' somewhere on Microsoft.com that Windows will automagically negotiate PPP connections to the Incoming Connections gizmo. So a standard issue PPP dialin should grant the connecting machine access to my network here. Still wondering if that also means access to the 'net. Guess I'll find out later tonight. :)
