How do I setup windows 2000 so my win98 machine can access it over the network?

given that your network is working. you would need to create a username in your win2k box. when logging into win98, use that same username that you've created in win2k. also, make sure you share out whatever you want win98 to access on win2k.

Another solution would be enable Guest account on the win2k box so the win98 PC can login as guest... However I would recommend dkk's method, since enabling guest account will introduce more security issues...
