hey guys,

i USED to know how to do this...guess i forgot.

Here is my situation:

computer one:
Win2k
2 network cards
1 connected to the DSL modem and the other connected to computer 2.
IP: 206.0.0.1

computer 2:
Linux (Slackware 8.0)
1 network card connected to the Win2k Box using a crossover cable
IP: 206.0.0.2
Gateway: 206.0.0.1

k i can ping both computer from each other. I setup the Linux Box and the win2k box. Is there a way i can do this w/o using ICS or other software??

just want to get to the net using the Linux box =).

Thanks for any help, if ya need more info to help me...just ask! ill be glad to help..

EDIT:

I need to setup win2k as a router. I have a firewall so dont worry about that part....jsut need it to act as a router! i know there is software built into wint2k pro that can do this..just need you guys to help me find it.

You'll need a software or a hardware solution to get to the 'net from the Linux machine. Try Sygate or Winproxy on your PC and things will start to work.

Or, if you're going to be using this for quite a while you might look into a hardware router like the SMC Barricade. Better investment in the long run.

IF you go to the NIC properties and click "Forwarding ON" it'll turn the WIN2K box into a router (a sucky router, but the basic functionality is there). If you're not concerned about the proxy stuff, that's the quickest /easiest thing to do.

(no security either, BTW)

Good Luck

Scott
