Setting up WD Raptor 74GD.

I just got my WD Raptor 74 gb and I plan on making it my boot drive and making my Maxtor 160gb PATA (has 1 data full partition) my slave/storage drive. How would I go about doing this, do I need any of the drivers? Thanks.

When you install windows, hit f6 and install the sata drivers provided with the Raptor. I dont really know what else you ll need. Its a pretty simple process and this question has been asked numerous times. If all else fails, you can always use the search bar.

The raptor doesn't come with "sata drivers" but your mainboard will.

Yeah i did that but friggin windows won;t install the drivers on the disk, I tried lots of variations, nothing is working. Plus when in BIOS it shows the raptor as a third master boot (I have a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum),

!! Detach your PATA HDD when you install windows on the SATA !!

Windows won't install drives on the disk... you boot from the windows CD and when it says "Presss F6" on the bottom you press F6 then a few seconds later you will ask you to put the driver floppy in.

one sec let me see if that will work.thx.

WHen i press F6 before XP setup It shows me a message that reads "unable to load support for mass storage that you specified", then when i insert the diskette it doesn't do anything when i initiate it.

Yes, I gonna go ahead and install xp on it without the drivers and see if it goes wacky again or not. ONe last question does it matter that the rapter is the Third Master drive and the pata drive a secondry slave?

I was able to install xp finally on the raptor, however, when I reconnected the PATA maxtor, the computer wouldn't start windows. I am desparate for suggestions right now. Thanks.

Set the first boot device to SCSI or the raptor.

On the MSI neo2 you can only change the first boot to hard disk, cdrom, floppy and someother device, none are scsi or specifically the raptor drive. I tried switching between the cdrom and the floppy but nothing helps. SHlt man, I should have been done by now and studing for Physic,. THanks for helping btw.

There should be another option for hard disk boot priority, thats where you set it to SATA or SCSI depending on what your motherboard lists it as..
