Ok I assumed all I would have to do is install Vista 64 bit and bam I would have the benefit of having a 64 bit OS. I have been running Vista 64 bit for about a year now and just found out to get a signifigant increase in performance you need to turn HEPT To 64 bit in the bios. I have done this now.

I am wondering if there is anything else I need to turn on or change to increase my performance for a 64 bit OS. MY sig has all my hardware. This is my 2nd system having vista 64 bit I just got this one around 3-4 months ago. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hpet im not sure. I started reading through the manual for my motherboard and it said to turn it on for a 64 bit OS. I forget what it said but it said something like you wont get any performance idffernece without it. I turned it on and I was wondering if there were any other settings I could click on to increase the performance even more.

64 bit OS'es really only increase performance noticeably for high performance applications, things like number crunching, scientific computing, etc, IIRC. The only benefit that a normal user will see is the ability to address more than 4GB of memory. XP w/ PAE turned on still didn't do that properly.

Say what you will about memory usage, but my machine w/ 6 gigs feels a lot better than it did with Vista and 2 gigs. The UI is noticeably faster, which is all I wanted in the first place. Sad that my OS needs more memory for a satisfactory experience than most games do.

This doesnt have anything to do with memory but with my Intel ssd drive as soon as my pc turns on I can do anything I want. There is literally 0 lag. Every pc i have used in the past has always needed at least 15-xxx amount of seconds. Its awesome. I highly recommend one. Lol sorry you started talking about UI speed I had to say something about how awesome the ssd drive really is.

But thats besides the point. so i am guessing there is nothing else I have to do to get the full benefit out of my OS. I spent alot of money on my pc I just wanna make sure it runs perfect.

I just reread your post the bost dangler I am sorry I will link the WIKI of HEPT for you

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Precision_Event_Timer

HPET is meant to supplement and replace the 8254 Programmable Interval Timer (PIT) and the Real-time clock's (RTC) periodic interrupt function. Compared to these older timer circuits, the HPET has higher frequency (at least 10 MHz) and wider 64-bit counters (although they can be driven in 32-bit mode).[1]

While 8254 and RTC can, similarly to HPET, be put in one-shot mode, the set-up process is so slow that their one-shot mode is not used in practice for tasks requiring precise scheduling.[2] Instead, 8254 and RTC are typically used in periodic mode with very small time interval. For example, if an application needs to perform several short (some milliseconds, perhaps) waits, it is better to have a periodic timer running constantly with 1 ms period because of the high setup cost of an 8254 or RTC one-shot timer. This causes an interrupt on every millisecond even if the application needs to do actual work less frequently. With HPET, the extra interrupts can be avoided, because the set-up cost of a HPET one-shot timer is considerably smaller.

thats from wowwiki. It kinda made sense to me lol.
