Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 500 MCE White box Tuner Card
comcast motorola box ( http://i19.tinypic.com/4uu808h.jpg )

...I have a seperate computer that I use as my 'media center pc' that I have hooked up directly to my tv.. so I can watch videos, listen to music.. and whatever while someone is working on the main computer.

I recently got cable, and was trying to hook it up to my media center.. so I can watch tv through it.

on the back of my cable box there are RCA outputs.. so I tried using them instead of the tv coax cable.. but when I try to set it up on media center.. it says it detects the signal but when I get to the change channel part where it's suppose to display the tv at the bottom.. it's just black.. so it's not getting the cable signal.

any idea how to fix this without having to use the coax cable.. and still use the rca cables?

I have the IR box with the cable, and remote.

As far as I know there is no way to actually control the channel part of the cable box from a different computer - you would need to change the channel on the box itself, not your media center pc. Thats what is annoying about having digital cable.

I think this is possible with an IR Blaster. My friend told me that mce usb remote sensor does this as well but have not tried it yet.

Can anyone else chime in?

This wasn't mentioned, assuming you had done this, but if not, did you go through MediaCenter Setup? From there you setup your TV signal how its connected, as well as entering zipcode for guide setup, your speakers and configure you TV or monitor. You use mediacenter to control channel changing.

Exactly - with the MCE500 should have come the IR Blaster setup; if it didn't, buy it, and hope (or Google) that it will control your brand of cable box. If it will, you're home free.
