The computer is running a Radeon 9200 and hooked up to a TV and a monitor.

I want the monitor at 1024x768 and the TV at 800x600 in Clone mode with panning. I also have it set to Theater mode so video goes to full screen on the TV. I don't want the TV at 1024x768 because I can't get video to fit nicely at the resolution. I set this up really easily on my GeForce 4MX using the nVidia control panel, but the ATI control panel doesn't seem to have the options for it.

I remember it worked fine on my 9600. You can choose seperate resolutions easily from the "Settings" tab in the Display Properties. So you don't have to use the CCC to do that.

Thanks for the reply Oklahoma, but what you're describing is extending the desktop. I want to run in Clone mode, which doesn't give the option to change resolutions with the ATI software.

I'm a little fuzzy on how you would "clone" the desktop at a different resolution. Wouldn't part of the screen not be visible on the cloned display?

The TV will be at 800x600, but it'll pan. That means the screen will scroll to show the rest of the desktop as you move the mouse around.

That would be incredibly stupid, which is probably why they don't support it. :p

Why not just run both at 800x600? Or run the TV as a separate monitor and drag the window over or use Theater Mode when you want to watch video on it?

If it is an SDTV or in any case the output is composite or S-Video then the TV resolution is limited to 480 only, but as long as the monitor is not set higher than 768 it will clone without panning. In the Control Panel (and presumably CCC) the TV will show 768 normally and 480 during video playback in Theater Mode to reflect the TV encoder scaling (or lack thereof). So, it is working optimally in clone & Theater Mode with the deskotp set at 768 and panning is neither possible nor desirable.

I surmise the true solution to your problem ("can't get video to fit nicely") is to make use of the adjustments from the ATI TV Properties. You may optionally use the Overscan or Video buttons (the latter during playback only), however depending upon the TV it may result in a slight cropping so I personally just set the adjustments while playing back a video with a known correct aspect ratio and preferably one that matches that of the TV so that it will fill the available screen, making adjustment easier than with matting (black bars).
