setting up three monitors

alright, so i recently set up a triple monitor setup, and im having a couple issues with it.

first off, the specs.

2x gateway FPD1985W's (19" widescreen, 1440x900)
1x dell 2407WFP (24" widescreen, 1920x1200)

the dell is in the middle surrounded by the two gateways.

graphics cards:
Geforce 8800GTS going into the dell
radeon 7000 64mb (pci) doing DVI to one and VGA to the other of the gateways

(anyone think i should plug two into the 8800 and one into the 7000? ill be gaming on one and just desktop and extra stuff on the other two)

alright, so the problem: when i was initially installing it the dell would come on, find the hardware for the radeon, and then the screen would go dark, and never come back on. i did a little searching, and found out that ATI cards like to be the "init display first". so i went into my bios and set it to pci, and then the gateways kicked on.

heres where it gets weird...it was seeing both video cards, and could tell that something was connected to them, but when i go to change the settings in display -> settings i got this error:

"The currently selected graphics display driver can not be used. it was written for a previous version of windows, and is no longer compatible with this version of windows.

the system has been started using the default VGA driver.

please contact your hardware manufacturer to get an upgraded driver, or select one of the microsoft provided drivers."

and if i go to select my resolution on the nvidia card, it just gives me -1 by -1....

i tried last night reinstalling my nvidia drivers, and then all three monitors worked for a while, but now i just woke up and were back to the same problem.

i tried using omega drivers for the ATI card, and everything got all messed up. so i uninstalled those, went back to the microsoft ones that windows used originally. that worked great for a bit, now they dont. so i tried the ATI ones, no change.

any thoughts anyone?

so is this all in one computer? i can see if your trying to run two videocards, one from ati and one from nvidia, on the same motherboard where it would screw up on you...

yeah i thought about that, what i get for trying to skimp on $ on the second vid card....

maybe ill head to BBY when i get back from vacation and grab a 5200 and see if it fixes it..

😛

looks like people have had success with the apollo 5200...

and yeah ive ordered plenty of items from the egg in the past, i was just thinking about BBY cause im an employee, which pretty much negates the diff in price, and then i can return it easily if that doesnt fix the problem.

but ill probably go with the apollo since now im goin outa town and itll be here when i get back (fanless over active cooling for a secondary video card? easy choice for me..)
