Setting up the neighbor with a gaming rig: how far should I push this T-bred B?

Asus A7V333
Crucial 512 MB PC2700
Gc69 cooler
Juihb 0308 dut3c 1.6 vcore default

I had it at 11.5X174 for 2001, but it takes 1.8 volts actual, and runs about 44-45 full load.
Tried it at 11X175 for 1925, takes only 1.71 volts actual, and runs under 40.

for 75 mhz, Is it worth selling this guy on this beast, at the higher voltage, or drop it down to the cool cruising XP2300+ speed?
I'm thinking the long term stability and coolness of 1.7 volts is worth the loss of 75 mhz in this case.
Any ideas, pro or con, on 1.8 volts for the long run?

I usually don't go past 1.750 volts no matter what the temp is... voltage will still break down a processor even if the temps are low enough not to cause heat problems.

Yeah... only thing that doesn't apply to is the Palomino XP's with a default voltage of 1.750, then 1.850 is probably as high as I'd go.

I think he'll be happy at 1925 mhz, running very cool at 30 system temp, 35 cpu while priming and surfing (asus reports cpu temps low, but it feels like it is under 40 still)
I have the ram at 25222 timings, so it will bench out OK for a sub 400$ rig.

GF3- TI 500, I think. I am benching it with my ti200 right now. Are those cards fine at 70mhz?
I will test out gaming stability next.
EDIT: I can't get over how cool these things run. Even if asus reports temps low, the side of the socket, edge of the proc, and base of the heatsink are very cool to the touch:D

With a GF3 Ti500 I doubt you'll even notice a difference between the stock speed of the CPU, and overclocked to whatever you have it at. When I went from an XP1700 @ 1667 to an XP2500 at 2210 my 3DMark score increased by a whole 200 points... and that's with a GF4 Ti4200... that tells me the XP1700 @ 1667 was maxing out the Ti4200, so there's no doubt in my mind it will push a GF3 to it's limits.

It is all about bragging rights, but windows still sees this as an xp1700+ even overclocked to 1925. My abit would have called it an xp2300+, and reported the MHZ in my computer, properties. Must be a quirk of this motherboard.

Jeff.. thats strange that your 3DMark scores only increased by 200 pts. When I had my palomino 1900+ and a Radeon 8500 (64MB), my 3DMark score was 7400, but when I put in my AIUHB 0302 and oc'ed it to 2300 mhz, my score increased to 9800. The Radeon 8500 was very similar to the TI500 too, as far as performance went.

I was getting about 11,800 with the XP1700 @ 1667... just broke 12,000 with the XP2500... and the nForce2 motherboard and PC2700 RAM helped increase that to what you see in my profile.

I agree you should settle on a lower CPU clock and vcore, especially for a friend. Last thing you want is a burnt-up or troublesome comp.

sitting here idling at 32/36 C with the side off and the side fan disconnected, at 176X11 and actual vcore of 1.71
That is where it will stay, if not lower. We plan on gaming the heck out of it next:D
